UNIGIS_NL Discussion Group Up and Running
by John-Paul Glutting

All new (and "veteran") members of the UNIGIS Amsterdam community should be aware that we now have a Google Group dedicated to discussion of the concerns of students in the program. Membership is open (we have had no problems with spam so far, so hopefully we can keep it that way), but I believe you need a Google account. The group can be found at:
http://groups.google.com/group/unigis_nl.

I started the group because my experiences in my previous degree programs were that a large part of the learning experience comes from interactions with other students, and I missed that in this program as a distance learner. After attending the first Workshop, I found that many other students felt the same way, and we decided to create a space where we could continue our discussions about GIS and GIS-related issues. It also was clear that our students represent a tremendous resource, encompassing a vast breadth of experience and knowledge, from biologists to computer scientists to social scientists to industry professionals.

The group is open to any topics the members choose to discuss. Currently, there are discussion topics on each of the Modules in the first year of studies, job prospects / opportunities, open source software / resources, and even a sad chronicle of the Great UNIGIS Plague of 2008.

Please join. We can learn a lot from each other!
