Symposium Manolo, mobile learning in practice - Jan. 24 '06, Wageningen
by Mathilde Molendijk

Together with the University of Wageningen (WUR) we organized (end of January) a well-attended symposium on mobile learning. This has been a research area of both universities for over four years, called the Manolo project, and sponsored by the Dutch SURF foundation.

Since the application of innovative educational ICT in GIS education is evident, we have carried out experiments with mobile GIS and mobile devices within several courses in the university, amongst others archeology, biology, earth sciences, environmental studies, medicine, etc. The symposium had an international focus, with Fabrizio Cardinali from Italy (MobiLearn project) speaking on the European developments in mobile learning; Agnes Kukulska-Hulme and John Traxler (The Open University / University of Wolverhampton / JISC) on the English experiments with mobile learning; Henk van Zeijts of the Dutch Waag Society; and – last but not least – we presented the results of the research and experiments carried out at the VU and WUR.

Have a look at the project website for the case studies, the lessons learned, the speech abstracts; the video recordings and much more: Manolo website.
