Royal Decoration for Henk Scholten
Amsterdam, April 2005

On Friday April 29th, 2005, Henk Scholten, CEO of Geodan, received a Royal Decoration from the acting mayor of the Dutch municipality Drechterland, mrs. A.G.M. van de Vondervoort. This Royal Dutch decoration, Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, was conferred on him for his significant contribution to geo-information, both on a national and international level.

During the ceremony prof.dr. Scholten was honored for his many years’ dedication to geo-information in the broadest sense of the word. Numerous examples of his dedication were referred to, including his early involvement in the European GIS activities, his efforts for the Dutch Ravi and NCGI, the scientific UNIGIS programme and more recently the activities for the SPINlab (the Spatial Information Laboratory of the Free University Amsterdam). Also his enthousiasm for geo-information that he spreads during all his national and international presentations was mentioned. By doing so Henk Scholten manages time and time again to increase the support for geo-information.

The nomination was initiated by the Dutch association for geo-information (GIN) and was supported by the vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where prof.dr. Scholten is appointed as professor in Spatial Informatics.
