Royal Decoration for Henk Scholten

On Friday April 29th, 2005, Henk Scholten, CEO of Geodan, received a
Royal Decoration from the acting mayor of the Dutch municipality Drechterland, mrs. A.G.M. van de
Vondervoort. This Royal Dutch decoration, Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, was conferred on
him for his significant contribution to geo-information, both on a national and international level.
During the ceremony prof.dr. Scholten was honored for his many years’ dedication to geo-information
in the broadest sense of the word. Numerous examples of his dedication were referred to, including
his early involvement in the European GIS activities, his efforts for the Dutch Ravi and NCGI,
the scientific UNIGIS programme and more recently the activities for the SPINlab (the Spatial
Information Laboratory of the Free University Amsterdam). Also his enthousiasm for geo-information
that he spreads during all his national and international presentations was mentioned. By doing so
Henk Scholten manages time and time again to increase the support for geo-information.
The nomination was initiated by the Dutch association for geo-information (GIN) and was supported
by the vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where prof.dr. Scholten is appointed as professor
in Spatial Informatics.
