the Jagiellonian University located in Krakow by Mathilde Molendijk UNIGIS Poland is part of the 630-year-old (!!) Jagiellonian University located in Krakow. The university is proud that the astronomer Copernicus studied there in the 1490s, as well as the late Pope John Paul II in more recent times. The meeting took place in the Collegium Maius building (the oldest college of the university), which is a beautiful building dating from the 13th or 14th century (anyhow, very old) built around a courtyard with a well in the center. The edifice was used for lecturing and the professors lived and worked there as well. Nowadays, although the Geography Department is centuries old, the UNIGIS staff is young and dynamic and they have made a good start with their first intake. |
